This past year has been unlike any other, and we hope you and your family are healthy and safe. Despite the uncertainties and challenges we all face, we have so much to be thankful for. We feel tremendously proud of our student-athletes for all their perseverance and care for others. As our season winds down, we are already making plans for a more normal 2021-22 softball season!
Like most programs, we have felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our 2020 season ended abruptly, after a promising start. This spring has been a bit of a roller coaster with some games having to be postponed for health and safety reasons and a schedule that continues to evolve. Through it all, our players have brought the same spirit of resilience, teamwork and hard work that we have come to expect.
Off the field, the pandemic reduced some external funding sources that directly benefited our program. With health concerns in the fall, we declined to work the Iowa State football games, a longstanding source of revenue for the team. We also canceled our popular Alumni Day and Auction this past fall, leaving us a little short in our fundraising efforts. Each year our main fundraising goal is to help finance our spring break trip. We have also been invited to the Leadoff Classic, a prestigious Division III early season tournament that allows us to showcase our program and our outstanding student-athletes against the very best!
To set our team up for continued success, we aim to raise $6,000 by June 20, 2021. Will you consider making a gift of $50 or more to help us reach our goal?
With your support, we are confident we will continue providing our players with the wonderful experiences that make Central such a special place to learn and grow. We are grateful to have you as part of the Central softball family. Go Dutch!
